Wood Front Porch Stair and Entry Custom Design Build
This beautiful custom design build wood front porch stair railing and entry is an excellent example of craftsmanship. The design fits well with the traditional historic home, and the build is full of details extracting quality that can only be done with a master craftsman’s experience. Westbrook set’s up in the field under a dry cover with workstations and tooling to protect and define the work area. We also use our wood shop to mill up and make many of the components, and pre prime all wood before installing. We use traditional vertical grain smooth fir and cedar, built in such a way to extract the best longevity as possible. The entry door was sourced from The Door Store and the lumber material was sourced from Limback Lumber. As a renovation contractor Westbrook has developed long term relationships with our suppliers. With our knowledge of material and its usage along with these relationships quality is the result. From a design standpoint it’s important to understand that one of the most overlooked value added feature of your home is its street appeal from an architectural and quality standpoint. One of the main mistakes I see with what should be wood front porch stairs and entries especially with historic and vintage homes in established neighborhoods, is that there is a tendency to use materials and methods that compromise on quality. Assuming the customer is going for a cheaper cost, or a DIY gone bad, to save dollars. The problem is that it also compromises the value of your home. Below is a photo of what that compromise looks like. The client of this project couldn’t be happier!
The dangerous and compromised value before entry.
