This historic home in Queen Anne is in one of the most iconic historic neighborhoods of Seattle. It was important for the owners of this vintage home to have an open door with a screen door to match the custom historic features of the front porch. They knew that the only way was to have the screen door custom made to match. That’s where Westbrook came in. This screen door is a 5/4 vertical grain fir, with classic bronze screen and traditional screen molding. The milling of the wood to the dowel joinery, install of the screen, the custom screen molding, the stained finish, and the install of the custom heavy duty bronze hardware were all done in Westbrook’s woodshop. The process started with working with the client on design and their expectations. With field measurements, the door slab was custom built to specifications. Once the slab is built, it is custom fitted in the raw to ensure a perfect install. Then, back to the shop to finalize the sanding, staining, and installation of hardware. Install is the last trip. Typically, a project like this is three to four trips, and a lot of communication.
Westbrook provides a personalized, fun experience with you. Clients are always welcome to visit the shop to see their project in process. You’ll also receive photos of your work as it’s happening, as if you are right there in the shop.
