Seattle Historic Window Restoration Millwork & Storms
The owner of this historic cottage home in Seattle contacted Westbrook Carpentry & Millwork for a double hung historic window restoration, custom millwork trim and adding traditional wood storm sash. A project that is perfectly suited for Westbrook because my business is a custom carpentry service working with Historic and Vintage homes. With decades of experience and a woodshop, this means I have the capability to do all the component’s this project required. The home was significantly modified previously and the owner wanted to bring back its authentic character. The project included custom interior millwork trim, traditional storm sash, a historic double hung window restoration, and a custom-made wood transom window with an art glass panel. The double hung window restoration required removing the sash, cutting out for weight pocket access, and re roping all the double hung windows. The interior trim and millwork I applied over the drywall returns and make longer sash stops to cover the edge. The millwork casing completely transformed the space back to the timeless original historic architecture design that this home originally had. I also custom manufactured the storm sash in my woodshop and after installing it transformed the exterior of this Seattle cottage home back to the traditional historic archectural look. Then, I built and installed the transom window which I shared in a separate post (with a link here for a closer look). The transom window sash was built with traditional mortice and tenon joinery, and period appropriate profiling. We worked with a custom glass studio to make the art glass panel to a design where the owner had a lot of input. In the end the owner was very happy with the transformation and the quality of work and the hands on, one on one personalized service the Westbrook Carpentry & Millwork provides. I was very happy with how this Seattle historic cottage window restoration, millwork installation, traditional wood storms and the special transom window with its art glass turned out!
