What’s Interesting about this Seattle historic double hung wood window and sash restoration project I did some years ago, is that I got to film and write an article in a two-part series about historic window restoration. The Historic Moana apartments have been around since Seattle’s early days and were mentioned in a book called Shared Walls, Seattle Apartment Buildings 1900-1939, by Diana E. James. The other thing to note is that this project shows the experience Westbrook has in restoring and rebuilding Seattle’s historic windows. These days I’m generally working with historic homes that need vintage wood window repairs, restorations, and rebuilding. I also custom make and install traditional storm sash.

This project consisted of setting up scaffolding for access and diagnosing what needed to be done. Many of the entire window systems had to be totally removed and rebuilt in Westbrook’s wood shop. Some, only the sash were removed and restored and re-roped for operation. Although most of the original wood millwork was replaced at one time with stucco, These historic wood windows live on!
