New wood storm sash for a historic Seattle home are arched top and traditionally made by Westbrook to match the architectural era of this 1920’s home located in the Roanoke neighborhood of Seattle. I custom made these in my wood shop and installed in my client’s home. You cans see from the photos there is a lot of work that goes into manufacturing traditional historic storm sash with arch or radiused tops. Like all my historic window reproduction and repair projects I use vertical grain fir. I work the fir in such a way as to take out any warps or bows so the final material is very straight, stable and exactly the right thickness. There is a variety of machines used for this, but the most important thing is to view and sort the material beforehand. I’m looking at grain pattern, bows, warps, and orientation for running direction into the machines. These are just some of the steps in manufacturing custom historic window sash.
