Historic Casement Window Repair and New Custom Storm Sash
These unique in swing original wood casement leaded glass windows are original to this 1920’s Seattle historic home. They needed a lot of custom work, but being that they are original and a part of the period architectural design it would have been a real monetary devaluation to replace. Thankfully the owners knew that and could see the value in having Westbrook restore, and rebuild these windows properly. In order to get the best protection for the prime sash I made custom storm windows and fitted them with the appropriate hardware. The storm sash not only protect the prime sash, but also add a lot of resistance to heat loss and act as a noise reducer. This method is way better in many ways than many new corporate mass produced windows on the market today. Plus they last longer, and can be maintained and worked on over time.
In the wood shop I rebuilt the bottoms of the casement wood sash and made new traditional storm sash to fit in all the openings. everything is made in Westbrook Wood shop, all manufacturing of sash parts, assembly, sanding, glazing, primer, and hardware installation. Once all the shop work is done the prime sash and storm sash are installed in the field.
If you have a distinctive historic, vintage or mid century modern historic home project I’d love to hear from you!
