A Historic Double Hung Window
This interesting historic double hung wood window project located in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, was all about getting the windows to operate well again. My client simply wanted their windows to work, and work well. In order to do that we needed to remove all the sash. Then it was all about stripping the layers of paint from the sash and jambs. This revealed all the wood decay, and modifications made by others over the years, so we could make an assessment of the woodworking needed to to replace parts of the sash. It was revealed that these sash had muntin bars vertical and horizontal that someone cut off years ago. This created more rot than expected so I had to manufacture new parts in my studio carpenter and wood working shop. As you can see from the pictures all the tooling required for this kind of historic home carpentry millwork is quite extensive. This is of great value to my clients that want quality workmanship. If you have any historic wood windows that need repair or replicating feel free to contact me anytime.
